The Revelstoke Tech Summit

Hack into Tech: The Future of Work.

This event will address the opportunities and challenges surrounding the evolving job market, the diversity of careers that incorporate technology, and the skills Canada's youth will need to successfully integrate into the workforce.

The summit will kick-off with a keynote address from former VP of engineering at buddybuild and Mozilla Foundation, David Ascher, who will share anecdotes on the evolution of work, thoughts about working remotely, and suggestions on mistakes to make and mistakes worth avoiding.

David's presentation will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Simon Wex of Adobe, and made up of professionals from the games development, digital arts, web development, and tourism sectors.

A career trade show will be hosted at Revelstoke Secondary School in the afternoon, and the summit will conclude with an evening event celebrating the launch of Startup Revelstoke, an innovation collective for business incubation bringing together entrepreneurs, investors and mentors passionate about regenerative communities.

David Ascher

David Ascher started programming at age 11 and has been involved in hundreds of software projects since – in teams small and large, in companies, non-profits, academic projects and solo projects, open source and proprietary, making web, mobile, desktop software and running services.  He’s been a newbie, an expert, a manager, a teacher and a student. He’s hired, promoted and fired.

David still enjoys tech and software, but is also concerned about the choices technologists make and our impact on the world.

Most recently he was VP of Engineering at buddybuild, a Vancouver based mobile continuous integration service company.
